Sonja Bessent

LCSW

Sonja Bessent is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with a bachelor's degree in social work from Hardin-Simmons University and a master's degree in social work from the University of Texas at Arlington.

Sonja believes every individual has inherent strength, value, and the capacity to grow and change. She considers it a privilege to walk alongside an individual or family during a challenging time, and an honor to be invited into someone's life and play a small part in their story. Her counseling orientation is client-centered and trauma-informed, drawing on person-centered therapy, cognitive-behavioral therapy, solution-focused therapy, and play therapy. She believes counseling should be individualized to meet each client's unique needs, strengths, and experiences.

Sonja works with children, adolescents, and families. She brings more than 20 years of experience in social work and mental health, including extensive work with neurodivergent children and those experiencing anxiety, oppositional behaviors, and other behavioral challenges. She also has experience providing parent support and guidance to help families better understand and respond to their child.

Outside of work, Sonja enjoys spending time with her family, being outdoors, staying active, and serving in her church and community.
